Breaktrek is the backpacker's solution. Features including a foldable seat, kickstand, adaptable compartments, and modular design put the user first and find new ways to improve their experience.
Reflecting on my own backpacking experience, I realized an issue that had always been in front of me: no hiker ever had a place to sit. Sometimes a log or rock can provide a temporary spot to rest, but that's an uncomfortable, unreliable, and sometimes unsafe solution.
But what does the hiker's ideal portable seating solution look like? As I explored the answer to this question, I began to notice other areas in backpack design that had opportunity for improvement.
As I developed my concept, I realized I needed to gain an understanding of how backpacks were made in order to design one well. I learned how to use a sewing machine and put together a simple book-bag to familiarize myself with the construction process of textiles.
Once I gained an understanding of how I could go about constructing this accessory, I made my final design decisions and got to work.
First things first, I made a full-scale mockup to build my pattern.
Then it was go time. I was nervous at first, but I really started to enjoy the sewing process by the end.
